🏛️White House's Plans on US Research Grant Receives Strong Pushback The Trump administration has proposed sweeping changes to how the United States awards federal research grants. If adopted, the rules would give political appointees direct control over all grant decisions, reduce the role of peer review, and restrict how scientists spend grant money — including on international conferences and open-access publishing fees. 📃The 412-page proposal came from the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on May 29. It covers all federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) — two of the largest science funders in the world. The administration plans to put the rules into effect on October 1. Within four days of publication, the proposal drew more than 3,500 public comments — nearly all critical. On June 2, around 2,000 people joined an emergency online meeting organized by the advocacy group Stand Up for Science (SUFS) to coordinate opposition. #SciencePolicy #ResearchFunding #PeerReview #WhiteHouse #OMB #NIH #NSF https://lnkd.in/gRbkuibb
