Shannon Award Goes to Andrea Goldsmith The IEEE Information Theory Society has announced that Andrea Goldsmith, the seventh president of Stony Brook University, is the recipient of the 2027 Claude E. Shannon Award. The award, the highest honor in the information theory community, recognizes her consistent and profound contributions to the field. She will deliver her Shannon Lecture at ISIT 2027 in Sorrento, Italy. Dr. Goldsmith is one of the most influential researchers in wireless communications. She earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley, and went on to hold faculty positions at Caltech, Stanford University, and Princeton University. From 2020 to 2025 she served as Dean of Engineering and Applied Science and the Arthur LeGrand Doty Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Princeton, before being named the seventh president of Stony Brook University .
