π¨π.π. ππ’π π‘ππ« ππ πππ«π¦ππ«π€π¬ πππππ‘ $π ππ’π₯π₯π’π¨π§ π’π§ ππππ According to Forbes, with most federal appropriations for the current fiscal year now signed into law, data shows that lawmakers continue to allocate earmarks to colleges and universitiesβincluding many of their alma maters. π²ππ πππππππππ ππππ πππ πͺπππππππ ππππ π¨πππππππππππππ π¨ππ, 2026: π° Total congressional earmarks across funded agencies: $15.7 billion (for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30) π Higher education share: ~$2 billion ποΈ Number of projects: Roughly 800 university initiatives π΄ π»ππ π©ππ πΎππππππ Both the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky are celebrating huge earmark windfalls, thanks to the efforts of Senator McConnell. UL, where McConnell earned his undergraduate degree, will receive $100 million for renovating and constructing research facilities, while UK, where McConnell graduated from law school, is being given $65 million for health research initiatives. Patty Murray is bringing home $50 million for the construction of a science research center at Washington State University, her alma mater. In addition, she secured more than $14 million for equipment purchases at the University of Washington. Senator Susan Collins was responsible for the University of Maine system receiving $51 million in directed funds, including $45 million for construction of the Maine Health Science Complex at the university. An additional million, requested by Collins, will fund the Maine Collector Survey for lobster in the Gulf of Maine. Senator John Boozman, a graduate of the University of Arkansas, earmarked more than $140 million for colleges and universities in his state, including $40 million for various projects and programs at University of Arkansas for Medical Science, $30 million for an Agriculture Center of Excellence in Food Science at the University of Arkansas, $15 million for the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith's Center for Mother and Infant Healthcare, $9 million to build a Healthcare Simulation Building at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, $20 million for the University of Arkansas - Pulaski Technical College, $20 million for Southern Arkansas University Tech, $7.7 million for a Health Science Center at Arkansas State University-Newport, and $7 million for Philander Smith University. As part of his earmark package this year, Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kansas) secured $20 million to support The University of Kansas Cancer Center.
