🎉 We are excited to share a new publication by Radwan M. Sarhan, Hari Haran Srinivasalu, Sarah von Chamier Gliszczinski, Sergio Kogikoski Jr., under the supervision of Yan Lu, Bernd Schmidt and Ilko Bald: 📄 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eJBeVnxY ✨ This work provides experimental insight into plasmon-induced Suzuki–Miyaura C–C coupling reactions via liquid-state SERS and correlates the findings with bulk solution-based reactions using Pd-decorated black gold (Au/Pd) nanowires. 🔬 In this study, the authors: • Developed a facile, room-temperature, two-step synthesis of spiked Au/Pd nanowires with tuneable Pd loading. • Used in situ SERS to monitor the cross-coupling of 4-iodothiophenol with phenylboronic acid in real time under visible-light excitation. • Demonstrated that thermal activation in the dark favours thiophenol as a major by-product via C–I dissociation, while light-driven conditions favour the biaryl cross-coupling product. • Used electron and hole scavengers to demonstrate that non-thermal charge carriers—not just localized heating—actively steer the reaction pathway. • Validated the selectivity switch in solution-phase reactions with 4-iodotoluene, quantified by GC-MS, where light irradiation boosted the cross-coupling yield. 💡 Together, these results show that hot carriers generated under plasmonic excitation accelerate Pd-catalysed cross-coupling—they actively govern its selectivity, opening a route toward light-modulated, energy-efficient catalytic design. 👏 The authors gratefully acknowledge their collaborators and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation, specifically CRC/SFB 1636 for supporting this work. Congratulations! 🎉 We are proud that this outstanding collaborative work emerged from the CRC/SFB 1636. #PlasmonicCatalysis #SuzukiMiyaura #Nanochemistry #Catalysis #SERS #ACSCatalysis
