Morning ramblings with Serina: Broadway has always been a place where stories evolve, where risks are taken, and where new voices shape the future of theatre. But lately, it feels like we’re caught in a revolving door of revivals and familiar adaptations - safe choices that, while beloved, don’t always move the art form forward. There is something irreplaceable about original work. It challenges audiences, creates new musical language, and gives artists the opportunity to tell stories that haven’t been told before. Even Andrew Lloyd Webber has spoken about the importance of investing in new shows and new music - because without that, theatre risks becoming a museum rather than a living, breathing art form. Is producing original work riskier for investors and producers? Absolutely. There’s no built-in audience, no guaranteed recognition, no safety net of nostalgia. But the reward…the chance to create something entirely new, something that resonates and lasts…is far greater. This is exactly why I’m so passionate about getting my work out there, including my show and The 412 Lounge. Not just to put something on stage, but to contribute to the kind of Broadway that takes chances again. The kind that introduces us to stories we didn’t know we needed. Because the future of Broadway shouldn’t just be remembered…it should be created. BroadwayWorld.com Broadway.com The Broadway League #independentartist #theatre #creative
