One of the most rewarding parts of helping lead this work has been seeing what happens when people who do not often work together are brought into the same room. Yesterday’s Building Resilient Communities Innovation Lab brought together preservationists, insurers, scientists, architects, planners, museum leaders, and community partners to address a simple yet important question: how does protecting historic places build more resilient communities? What made this conversation especially valuable was grounding it in real places facing real risks—from wildfire and sea level rise to neighborhood resilience and working landscapes. Thank you to Travelers, Charles & Ray Eames Foundation, Mystic Seaport Museum, Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans and participants for helping make this such an energizing and thoughtful day. Excited to continue building on the relationships and ideas that emerged.
