šŸš€ Meet the Team | SEREN — Space Life Sciences European Research Network We continue introducing the people behind SEREN. Next up: our Working Group 1 Ageing Lead. Milena Georgieva, PhD Professor of Molecular Biology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Co-Founder & Chief Scientific Officer, EPIX.AI 🧬 šŸ”¬ Milena's research spans molecular biology, genetics, epigenetics, and longevity — shaped by advanced training at the Curie Institute, the University of Strasbourg, and the International Centre for Bioengineering in Trieste. With over 100 peer-reviewed publications and leadership across multiple international research projects, she brings both scientific depth and global reach to one of space life sciences' most consequential open questions: what does long-duration spaceflight do to the human ageing process? That question is no longer hypothetical. As missions extend beyond low Earth orbit, understanding how microgravity and radiation interact with epigenetic ageing mechanisms becomes directly relevant to crew health, mission planning, and post-flight recovery. Through EPIX.AI, Milena operates at the intersection of epigenetics and artificial intelligence - applying both to personalised longevity in ways that translate directly into how SEREN frames biological ageing as a space health priority. Her advisory roles at the EU Horizon 2020 LifeSaver project and her membership in the European Federation of Biochemical Societies and the International Union of Clinical Epigenetics reflect a scientist who moves fluently across research, policy, and knowledge translation. As WG1 Ageing Lead, she brings that same range to SEREN.
