A smart home sensor does not have to look like a smart home sensor. This DIY project by Microamp Home shows how a Matter compatible temperature and humidity sensor, designed for long battery life, can be hidden inside an IKEA picture frame. The design uses a Seeed Studio XIAO nRF52840, a battery fuel gauge, and the Sensirion SHT41 for temperature and humidity measurements. What makes the project especially interesting is its focus on low-power design. The device operates as a sleeper sensor, waking periodically to report measurements.
