The industry has already begun moving in this direction. NVIDIA’s Quantum-X and Spectrum-X Photonics CPO switches, expected to enter commercial deployment in 2026, will deliver 409.6 Tb/s of bandwidth with 512 × 800 Gb/s ports, improving energy efficiency by 3.5× and reliability by 10×. Once optical link energy consumption drops to the sub-pJ/bit level, optical interconnects will not only address scale-out bottlenecks, but will also penetrate scale-up environments within racks, enabling end-to-end optical connectivity across the entire data center. https://lnkd.in/gtKKGGqP
