How to improve your attention span in 30 minutes. The Focus Forcefield System: This system builds in pre-scheduled blocks that automatically remove access to your biggest distractions before your work session starts. (Credit to Ben Meer) Here are the 4 simple steps to set it up: 1. Identify your top 5 distractions (5 minutes) Check either your Screen Time (if you have an iPhone) or Digital Wellbeing (if you have an Android) and list your five biggest time sinks. Examples: Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, email, news sites. — 2. Set up your phone (10 minutes) Install a blocker app: Opal, Stay Focused, or a physical option like Brick if you want a harder barrier. Create a daily session that blocks out all the time sinks you listed in Step 1. Turn on your phone's Do Not Disturb or a custom Focus Mode for the same window so notifications stay silent too. — 3. Set up your computer (10 minutes) Install Freedom (it’s paid, but syncs across devices) or the free LeechBlock NG browser extension. Block the website versions of the same Step 1 list. Apps blocked on your phone will pull you to the desktop versions otherwise. — 4. Create your daily focus block (5 minutes) Set the block for 60 to 90 minutes to start (you can make it longer once it becomes routine). Remember to set it to auto-start at the same time every day and enable strict mode, so you can't bypass it mid-session. Because 1 hour of focused work = 4 hours of distracted work.
