Today marks the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, an initiative led by the International Labour Organization. The theme for this year is “ensuring a healthy psychosocial working environment”. April 28 also signifies Workers’ Memorial Day, to remember those who have been killed, disabled, injured or made unwell by their work. At Sedgman, safety is more than just a requirement – it is a core value that underpins everything we do. This includes creating a psychosocially safe environment, which we take seriously, where our employees feel mentally safe - as it directly impacts mental health and wellbeing. Sedgman has a Respectful Workplaces Standard that governs how we manage psychosocial safety risk, and we are constantly seeking best-practice methods to provide prevention-focused interventions. This includes our Respectful Workplaces face-to-face training, Psychosocial Safety e-learning package for all employees, Psychosocial Safety Risk Assessment processes, and access to health and wellbeing platforms that provide proactive support to our employees located in Australia and globally. Today is a reminder that prioritising psychosocial safety strengthens both individual wellbeing and team performance. When people are in a safe work environment, have clarity in their role and are supported, it fosters an environment where teams can thrive and perform at their highest levels.
