Today is National Mural Day! The Vincent Scully Mural is a vibrant public art piece honoring the legendary architectural historian and Yale professor. Painted by internationally renowned street artist Gaia Street Art (Andrew Pisacane) in early 2018, the massive mural can be found on the town's prominent, bright purple wall facing Scenic Hwy 30A. It was dedicated during the 2018 Seaside Prize weekend. Vincent Scully was a legendary, spellbinding professor who taught art and architectural history at Yale University for over 50 years. He is widely considered one of the most influential architectural educators of all time. Scully heavily influenced the founders of the town and the broader New Urbanism movement. Gaia (aka: Andrew Pisacane) was born in 1988 in New York City. He is an American street artist who has received significant museum showings and critical recognition. Based in Baltimore, he has created large-scale murals worldwide to engage the community where he works in a dialogue by using historical and sociological references to these neighborhoods. The 2018 Seaside Prize was jointly awarded to five distinguished urban designers, architects, and educators: Deborah Berke, Ernesto Buch, Walter Chatham, Alexander Gorlin, and Robert Orr. #NationalMuralDay #Seasidelnstitute #SeasideFL #30A #Gaia SEASIDE® Florida
