🌊 Posidonia Oceanica: the heart of Mediterranean seagrass meadows #PosidoniaOceanica is an endemic Mediterranean #Seagrass, widely distributed along the #Mediterranean coast and the most abundant seagrass species in the Mediterranean Sea. It forms continuous meadows from 0.5 to 45 m depth, while in turbid waters the lower limit is around 9 m. This seagrass can be found on different substrates, from rocks to sandy bottoms, showcasing its adaptability. However, #PosidoniaOceanica does not tolerate even slight salinity fluctuations, turbidity, or increased sedimentation rates⚠️. For this reason, it is not found in estuaries, where the input of fresh water and fine sediments is too high for its growth.
