Post by Sven Daniel Wolfe

Assistant Professor of Social and Cultural Geography, University of Neuchâtel. Mega-Events, Everyday Geopolitics, (un)sustainability. New open access book: The Hard Edge of Soft Power tinyurl.com/SDWHESP.

We're hiring two PhD students at the Institute of Geography, Université de Neuchâtel. Please spread the word! The posts are generally similar but with a few key differences, including starting dates and research focus. One will be supervised by Prof. Etienne Piguet, and the other by me. Both of us are flexible about the specifics, but Etienne is seeking someone to work broadly on the linkages between environmental change and mobility / migration. Details up to you. As for me, I'm seeking someone interested in working on the processes of bordering and identity formation, specifically in the context of spectacular transformations. Bordering can mean everything from barriers in physical space to the hatreds hammered home in the human heart. Spectacular can mean transformations tremendous or terrible or something in between. The point is to interrogate and unpack that moment of change - what it does to people, to societies, to cities. Aside from working on the thesis, the successful candidates will also help out with normal assistantship tasks like teaching support and admin. There's also interdisciplinary collaboration with Maison d'analyse des processus sociaux (MAPS) Unine. You'll find some specifics attached, including how and where to apply. Neuchâtel is an amazing place to work, and this is an exciting time to be there. Come join us! Please reach out if you need more details or have any questions.
