In this interview, Adrien Marchandise, skipper of the MiniLab project, shares the story behind his Atlantic crossing aboard a retrofitted Mini 650 equipped with innovative recyclable foils and custom-engineered 3D printed components. Working alongside Sculpteo, the team developed lightweight yet highly resistant foil bearing components capable of withstanding extreme mechanical loads while reducing weight by approximately 30% compared to traditional machined parts. During the crossing, these parts were subjected to real-world conditions, including heavy seas, high speeds, and significant structural loads.
