“The SECOND Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America.” - John AdamsThat’s right. The 2nd. The Lee Resolution was ratified on July 2, 1777 legally asserting our independence from Great Britain. So on July 3rd, John Adams wrote to his wife Abigail that July 2nd would be celebrated “with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”Adams obviously had not read Simon Sinek’s book, “Start With Why”. What Adams failed to realize is the importance of WHY. The following day, July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed. What makes the Declaration so different from the Lee Resolution? It gives the WHY we declared our independence. So remember, July the Second is the real Independence Day 😉
