We’re always looking for ideas that stretch our understanding of what great leadership looks like, especially in teams. This recent article from Organizational Psychology Review offers exactly that: “A new, dynamic approach to leadership: Shared leadership – vertical leadership dynamics in teams” By Dan van Knippenberg, Craig L. Pearce & Wendy P. van Ginkel The authors explore the interplay between formally assigned leadership (vertical) and shared team leadership, challenging the idea that the two must exist separately. Instead, they propose that vertical and shared leadership actually shape each other over time. Formal leaders guide, support, and expand the team’s own ability to lead itself, both internally and across boundaries. It’s a shift from static leadership models to something much more fluid, developmental, and adaptive. Practical takeaways: 🔵 Encourage team-level conversations about how leadership should be shared 🔵 Build collective knowledge of each other's strengths 🔵 Use a coaching mindset to help team members identify who should lead when 🧠 What’s one way you’ve seen shared leadership show up in a high-performing team? #LeadershipDevelopment #SharedLeadership #VerticalLeadership https://lnkd.in/g-JpJNJT
