#WorldEnvironmentDay š | By analysing 20 years of health and environmental data, researchers from KU Leuven and Sciensano investigated how heat, pollen and air pollution interact to affect respiratory health in a recent study. Key findings: šø The combination of heat and pollen increases the risk of asthma symptoms and allergic rhinitis. šø The combination of ozone and pollen has a similar effect, further increasing respiratory health risks. As climate change contributes to longer pollen seasons and more frequent heatwaves, understanding these interactions is becoming increasingly important for public health. The study provides valuable insights to support the development of more effective biological and chemical air quality warning systems while taking extreme weather events into account. For more than four decades, Sciensano has coordinated Belgium's aeroallergen monitoring network (AirAllergy), providing essential data for research on climate, the environment and health. š Read the study: https://lnkd.in/eA2-M4Wt
