STA welcomes the Australian Government's front-foot approach to managing the AI revolution. We were pleased that STA President Jas Chambers was invited to today’s address by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, where details of the Government’s new AI plan were outlined. Australia needs clear governance and a strong framework, and real action, to make the most of this generational opportunity. And it must come with environmental, safety and copyright protections that benefit all Australians. There's no question AI will be a big part of Australia's future, from businesses to researchers and, importantly, for everyday Australia. Making sure we remain in control of that future is essential. The speech was supported by the Minister for Science, and the Minister for Innovation and Industry Senator Tim Ayres and also Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy, Dr Andrew Charlton.
