School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences at QMUL

After nearly 30 years at Queen Mary, Professor Chris Faulkes is retiring from the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy in teaching, research, and mentorship. Chris has inspired generations of students, led foundational teaching programmes, and built an internationally recognised research profile exploring the biology of naked mole-rats, from social evolution and subterranean adaptations to insights into ageing and human health. With more than 100 publications, supervision of numerous PhD students, and decades of fieldwork across Africa, his impact reaches far beyond our campus. We’re delighted that, as Professor Emeritus, he will remain connected to the School and its research community. Thank you, Chris, for your dedication, curiosity, and lasting contribution to SBBS!
