🥛 Congratulations to the authors of “Addressing wastewater challenges in the dairy industry: a focused case study” from Serbia and Lithuania for their important contribution to sustainable food production 👏   The study examined wastewater from a Serbian dairy plant over three years, focusing on both raw effluents and cleaning-in-place (CIP) wastewater.   Analyses included pH, nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus, organic load, solids, and microbial counts. Results showed that wastewater composition strongly depends on the type of dairy product and operational procedures, with highly variable pH values of 4.4 to 12.7, strong organic loads, and fluctuating microbial populations. Seasonal patterns were also observed, such as higher suspended solids in spring and summer, and increased microbial and organic loads in autumn and winter. These findings highlight the complexity of dairy wastewater and the need for adaptive treatment strategies.   Optimised management, such as pH control, nutrient removal, and a combination of biological and advanced technologies, can improve treatment efficiency, enable resource recovery, and reduce environmental impact.   🔹For continuous wastewater monitoring, we also highly recommend the inline process refractometer iPR FR2. Installed directly in the pipeline, it enables real-time monitoring of wastewater streams and helps detect process variations immediately, supporting more efficient wastewater management and resource recovery. 🔹For laboratory-based measurements, the refractometer ATR V/VT, the new generation of laboratory refractometers, is an excellent complementary solution, offering precise and reliable refractive index and concentration measurements.   Thank you for using our ATR BR Refractometer to measure the soluble solids content (SS) in Brix. We wish you every success with your further research!   Here you can find the paper: https://lnkd.in/eRczziJE   👉Explore our compact refractometer with intuitive touchscreen ATR V/VT: https://lnkd.in/eChiWw4Z 👉Explore our inline process refractometer iPR FR2: https://lnkd.in/eycYnm8z _______ For more than 160 years, SCHMIDT + HAENSCH has stood for optical precision and analytical measurement technology. Founded in Berlin in 1864 by Franz Schmidt and Herrmann Haensch, we continue to combine German engineering tradition with continuous innovation, supporting laboratories and industrial users worldwide with high-precision instruments for demanding analytical tasks.
