“It’s not just about training doctors. It’s about inspiring them to stay and serve the community that raised them.” Dr. Caroline C., Emergency Physician at SHN and Academy Director of the Scarborough Academy of Medicine, grew up in Scarborough watching her father, Dr. Paul Chan, care for patients for over 45 years. Today, she is carrying that legacy forward by training the next generation of doctors. The need is urgent. More than 100,000 people in Scarborough do not have a family doctor. Many turn to the emergency department for care that could have been treated earlier. Each year, SHN sees more than 221,000 emergency visits in spaces built for half that. That is why SHN is building the Scarborough Health Centre of Excellence.
