More women than ever want to get behind the wheel of a truck according to a Twitter poll carried out by the Freight Transport Association. The poll asked women if they would be willing to drive a 44-ton truck. 79% of respondents voted ‘yes’. Transport is often seen as gender neutral with a road system benefiting everyone equally. But men and women have different expectations, needs and constraints when using and operating transport systems. At Scania, we believe in a gender-balanced workforce which offers career opportunities to both men and women. In West Africa, our ‘Women moving the city’ initiative is playing a leading role in reducing the gender gap across Ghana’s transport industry.
