In Ghana, Scania West Africa is working together with GIZ Ghana, Reach for Change and national stakeholders to support this shift. The programme combines driver training with a focus on confidence, access, and new opportunities in the industry. 80 women will learn to drive heavy duty Scania trucks in mining. An additional 120 will be trained on mining related support business to increase their employability within this industry. Each number represents a person taking on a role that is shaping the industry. Participants learn to operate heavy duty Scania trucks and gain skills that improve their chances of long-term employment. This creates more stable income opportunities in a sector that is important for local economies. At the same time, mining operators are part of the programme. They gain a clearer view of how a more diverse workforce can support safety and performance. What makes this initiative effective is the full system approach. It supports individuals while also building demand and changing how the industry views talent. When more people gain access to skills, more people can take part in shaping the future of transport.
