A driving force in making sustainable transport a reality. Tobias Rydin, Head of Strategy & Business Development, Scania Logistics and Head of TRATON Inbound Logistics has shown that reducing environmental impact doesn’t have to come at the expense of efficiency and cost. Tobias shifted focus from short-term financial savings to long-term environmental responsibility. A change that shaped a new way of thinking, where green solutions are not just preferred, but prioritised. That is one reason he has been selected as this year’s recipient of Scania’s annual Eva Nyström Scholarship for innovation and sustainability. The scholarship honours the legacy of Eva Nyström, the first female engineer at Scania Engine Development, who had innovation and sustainability as guiding stars in both her leadership and her assignments. He describes his 25 years at Scania as an incredible journey. “A decade ago, when we started to take on sustainability more seriously, it was about what it meant for us working with commercial vehicles and logistics. Nowadays, sustainability is an obvious part of how we make decisions and develop our operations.” Tobias has pushed for bold and practical solutions to move the industry forward and has become a pioneer by including CO2 as one important element in the sourcing process. “I meet people every day that drives change in sustainability, by asking a question, challenge the way we have always done things, or find a slightly better solution. That commitment increases my own energy and makes me better in my own work.” “In a world that changes fast, I’m convinced that we have a fixed path ahead. What we at Scania have built together for many years, is stronger than trends and temporary fluctuations.”
