Premier Dom Perrottet. What do we know about him? No one in Gladys’ cabinet was lobbied harder by #Meriton than the (then) Treasurer. He met with Meriton every other month after they submitted their (since rejected) high-rise proposal for Little Bay. No one pushed more for “fast-tracking” of planning proposals, “acceleration” of the planning process in favour of developers and removal of “red tape” in the planning system than the new Premier. On the homestretch of our campaign Planning Minister Rob Stokes joined our opposition to Meriton’s high-rise proposal for Little Bay, calling its proposed built form “inappropriate as an isolated development in a sensitive coastal location” and a “significant departure from the community’s reasonable expectation about the scale of the development in Little Bay.” Mr Stokes lost Tuesday’s leadership ballot to Mr Perrottet 39-5. However, he remains as Minister for Planning and Public Spaces. It is promising that he got promoted and will also be taking on the transport and infrastructure portfolio from Andrew Constance who announced his resignation earlier this week to compete in the upcoming federal elections and become the member for Gilmore. Given that the Sydney Eastern City Planning Panel based much of their rejection of the Meriton proposal on the absence of public transportation infrastructure, we trust that we will have an ally in Minister Stokes who will not let our community down.
