Wow! Ian Lundin former Chair of Lundin Petroleum and uncle of current Lundin Group leadership Adam, Jack and William, is on trial along with another former executive for war crimes. Ian Lundin and Alex Schneiter are charged with complicity and aiding and abetting war crimes in South Sudan. “Allegedly” they paid the Sudanese army and other paramilitary groups to clear areas of all civilian inhabitants to prepare for exploration. The result was violent actions by armed militias and paramilitary groups including forcibly displacing 160,000 civilians, allegedly killing almost 12,000 people, as well as rape, enslavement, torture, indiscriminate attacks, pillage, and the recruitment of child soldiers. Closing arguments concluded in May and verdict expected by end of this year. And to know that the University of Arizona accepts millions of dollars from the Lundin family and has Jack Lundin sit on the board of their School of Mining and Engineering… There are no words.
