Two powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 have struck west of Caracas, Venezuela, leaving buildings collapsed and families fleeing their homes. Rescue teams are racing against time to find people trapped under rubble, while power and communications outages make it difficult to assess the full scale of the devastation. The quakes hit in the evening, raising fears that many may be trapped beneath collapsed structures. Children and families are sleeping in open areas as aftershocks continue. Save the Children works with partners in the affected areas and we are working urgently to assess needs and support those affected.
