Few people have spent a lifetime in papermaking the way miel couvee has.​ He began his journey at just fifteen, starting as an apprentice in a Dutch paper mill. Over the next five decades, he would master every step of the process, developing a rare sensitivity to the craft and even recognising a sheet of paper by its feel alone.​ But one experience changed his perspective forever.​ During his military service in Suriname, surrounded by rainforest, he saw firsthand how essential trees are to life.​ “Without trees, the earth withers and there is no quality of life.”​ That understanding stayed with him throughout his career. It shaped not only how he worked, but also how he shared his knowledge with others.​ Today, Miel’s story is not just about expertise, but about respect.
