Ethan Olson works with forests that will outlive him. As a Sappi forester, his days are measured in decades. His role is a constant balancing act, growing timber for landowners while taking care of the land and everything that depends on it. It’s an approach he has also taken beyond his daily work. Through his volunteering in Nepal, Ethan has worked alongside local communities to help restore forests and support the livelihoods that depend on them. “When we leave, the trees will live on for years and years, so the impact is much broader than just the people we directly interact with.” What he looks after today will endure long after he is gone. Ethan’s work shows that caring for forests means thinking beyond a single lifetime, for both the land and the communities it supports. A perspective that lies at the heart of Made for Life.
