Advocacy Weekend in York with The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple Last weekend, from the 24th to the 26th of January 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to attend an advocacy weekend at The Milner York, formerly The Principal York Hotel with The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple, and it was truly an eye-opening experience. As a January Bar Student, I initially felt intimidated and challenged. Coming out of the weekend, I feel more inspired, and pushed beyond my comfort zone in ways that have only strengthened my confidence as someone who intends to become a practicing barrister. Engaging with experienced practitioners and receiving hands-on training in advocacy skills has not only refined my approach but also reinforced my passion for the Bar. The intensive workshops, feedback sessions, and the warm welcome from all the Middle Templers made this experience invaluable! As the weekend came to an end, I felt more prepared and excited for the journey ahead. I learned that Advocacy is an art, the art of persuasion, precision, and presence, and I am eager to continue developing these skills. For anyone considering the Bar, these experiences are a reminder that growth comes from pushing ourselves into new challenges. Looking forward to what’s next!
