This is what compliance looks like at -35. I was out in the field this week watching loaded log trucks push through winter roads in northern Alberta. Burned timber on both sides. Snow dust cutting visibility to nothing. No cell service. No shoulder to pull onto. This is where safety plans get tested. Not in a boardroom. Not in a binder on a shelf. Right here, on roads most people will never see. After 30+ years in forestry logistics and transportation safety, I can tell you this: the companies that survive these conditions aren’t lucky. They’re prepared. Pre-trip inspections done right. Drivers trained for the actual environment, not a textbook version of it. Load securement checked twice because there’s no second chance on a road like this. If your safety program can’t hold up on a winter haul road, it can’t hold up anywhere.
