The U.S. Air Force has requested $5.03 billion for the development of the next generation F-47 sixth generation fighter, marking a 65% funding increase over Fiscal Year 2026. The aircraft is part of the Next Generation Air Superiority (NGAD) program and has now entered the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. Funding is projected to stay above $3.2 billion annually through 2030, with the development phase running from 2025 to 2031 before the jet is expected to reach operational capability. Analysts say the program reflects the rising cost and complexity of future air combat, where AI, stealth, and networked warfare are becoming as critical as traditional firepower.
