🇩🇿👨🏻‍💻 Algeria will launch a full digital modernization of the People National Army in 2026. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, announced on October 11th, 2025 through Algerie Presse Service that Algeria will embark on a full digital modernization of the People National Army (ANP) and of the wider country administration in 2026. 🔎 The 2026 Algerian defense budget will exceed 24 billion US dollars, following a 21.6 billion dollar spend in 2024 and a record 25 billion dollar envelope in 2025, sustaining the largest per capita defense outlay in Africa. The Algerian Defense Ministry has framed the modernization around communications, information systems, electronic warfare and mastery of modern technologies, complementing the ongoing acquisition of Russian Su-57 Felon fighters, Su-34 strike aircraft, Su-30MKA multirole jets, S-400 air defense systems, Iskander-E ballistic missiles, T-90SA main battle tanks and Kilo class submarines. 🎯 The Algerian digital push consolidates Algiers at the centre of the North African defense industrial map at the moment when Rabat is looking to close the technological gap with the Dassault Rafale F4 or the F-16V Viper and Israeli systems, when Libya remains fractured and when the Alliance of Sahel States is turning to the Russian Africa Corps. ⏭️ By pairing the record defense budget with a doctrinal shift toward electronic warfare, cyber and networked command, Algiers is positioning the ANP as a credible peer competitor to the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces and as the primary continental partner of the Russian, Chinese and Iranian defense industrial ecosystem.
