There’s a moment in almost every government conversation right now where it comes back to the same tension: how do you move faster without losing accountability? That theme came up again and again at the Public Sector Network Government Innovation Showcase Virginia. During the Smarter State Buying panel, moderated by Bill Greeves (SAP), the discussion stayed grounded in what this actually looks like inside agencies: • Suresh Soundararajan, SAIC • Shabeen Vijayan, Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) • Zacc Allen, Virginia Department of Corrections • Mary Lou Bulger, VITA • Wallace D. Sermons II, J.D., Maryland Department of General Services Less talk about transformation in the abstract, more about the reality. How teams are using data to make procurement decisions faster, how partnerships are helping open access to more suppliers, and where the process still slows things down. The same themes carried into conversations offstage. At our tabletop, and in discussions with clients and partners, there was a clear focus on what’s practical now versus what’s still aspirational.
