Great second day at Prototypes for Humanity in Dubai! Talking to people from all over the world has been the best part - every conversation forces us to rethink Safest Way in completely different regional contexts. Dubai, for example: one of the safest cities in the world, so personal safety isn’t the same concern as in the UK. But… it’s also not that walkable. We experienced it ourselves - even figuring out how to cross the road felt like a puzzle. So the idea of highlighting safe crossing points suddenly became incredibly relevant. Then there were the Americans. We kept hearing: “Oh my god, this is so needed in the US - especially Chicago or Detroit.” We even debated how our routing algorithm would work in Tanzania, where access to data and infrastructure is limited. And the most unexpected question of the day? “Can Safest Way help if someone is attacked by an animal?” Closely followed by: “If there’s only one CCTV camera in the desert, can you use facial recognition to identify misbehaving tourists?” A true brain-teaser. Huge shoutout to our stand neighbours - genuinely brilliant people: - Alex Clark, co-founder of Aeropod (By Muju Earth) - biodegradable capsules that restore soil health. - Julie Huh and the Vocadian team from Harvard University - congratulations again on winning the Urban Society category with their platform predicting fatigue using voice biomarkers! Looking forward to the rest of the week, more conversations, more challenges, and more unexpected ideas.
