Breaking Binaries • Optimizing Processes • Recognizing Emergence

Disclaimer: This work is for research and educational purposes ONLY ! --- Every now & then it's important to take care of yourself. A skill I honed regularly in the past was reverse engineering. Breaking binaries open, hot-patching code and enhancing user experiences across different applications, for many years. I wondered if I still had it in me, so an exercise for the weekend, I equipped my favorite disassembler, a decryption tooling of choice and dissected LinkedIn as a refresher. And quite frankly, the old truth prevails: It doesn't matter if you use safeguards against debugging, use Server-Driven UI to ditch dedicated client code or encrypt your binary - Nothing escapes runtime introspection because the memory holds the deciphered truth. And as such, I created BetterLinkedIn: An iOS tweak to alter the user experience by removing ads across LinkedIn (Source: https://lnkd.in/eHTCNz3F) Below's a short demo of the tweak in action, injected into the current stable release of LinkedIn. ... and what's the takeaway? A skill acquired through hard work and rigorous training does not simply vanish. You may get rusty, but it's there, waiting to become a reignited passion. Enjoy your weekend and reading the source code, until next time! 🎉
