Our 600-plus water storages across South Australia come in all kinds of unique shapes and sizes – none more so than this historic gem in Woolundunga, near Port Augusta. Constructed in the 1860s, it’s one of 3 archway-shaped tanks built in the region as part of delivering a non-drinking supply of water to the region. The distinct bunker-shape is a rare sight in the state, with this design due to the region’s elevation and gravity feed of water. Following a refurbishment in 2021, one of these 3 historic tanks still remains in service today.
