Many people assume that solar panels stop working when the sky clouds over. That's not true. Solar modules don't only respond to direct sunlight. They also capture the diffuse light that is filtered through clouds and the atmosphere. Even on a fully overcast day, enough light reaches the panel to keep it generating. A cloudy day typically delivers 10 - 35% of the rated output of a clear day. Throughout the year, that adds up. Which is why our solar portfolio doesn't stop at sunny markets. RWE operates more than 100 solar projects across Europe, the Americas and Australia – under very different skies. From Greece and Spain to Germany, Poland and the UK, the same technology delivers, sunray after sunray, cloud after cloud. If solar works in Germany in November, it will work in a lot of places that don't yet think of themselves as solar markets. Solar doesn't need a cloudless sky. It just needs daylight.
