Transformational leadership, academia, advisory and supervisory boards
At the beginning of this year, I stepped away from full-time work—an intentional pause that quickly became something far more meaningful. After the initial adjustment, I had a realization that stayed with me: for years, work had been at the center, and family and close friends were what I fit in around it. Shifting that perspective—having the courage to place life, relationships, and shared experiences at the core—has been both grounding and deeply fulfilling. That said, this is not a step back. It’s a deliberate step forward into the areas where I know I can create the most impact: Transformational Leadership I work with leaders, teams, and organizations to achieve outcomes beyond expectations—by leading through influence rather than using a stick. My approach is grounded in what I call the six fundamentals of great leadership. This takes shape through keynotes, mentoring and coaching, and hands-on support for leadership teams navigating complex challenges or pursuing bold ambitions. Academia Having started my career in academia, I feel a strong pull to contribute again—whether in teaching or leadership roles. My focus spans international taxation (my original field) and broader themes of transformation, people, and change. Education matters deeply to me: it shapes not only careers, but how individuals think, lead, and contribute to society. Advisory & Supervisory Roles In recent years, I have had the privilege of advising and mentoring professionals and emerging leaders. What surprised me most is how much perspective comes simply from having experienced different environments, challenges, and crises. I value being a sounding board—bringing clarity, challenge, and support where it matters most. Feel free to reach out if you are looking for a keynote speaker, a mentor or coach, academic collaboration or an experienced voice at the board level. I would be glad to connect. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to live and work in six countries—an experience that has shaped both my professional path and personal life in ways I deeply value. I’m also grateful to those who have influenced and supported me throughout my journey: Frank Engelen (while we worked together it is and always has been about deep friendship, which I treasure deeply), Nigel Vooght, Stephen O’Hearn, David Law, Yogen Singh, Walter de Zeeuw, Fons Hoogeveen, Henk van Arendonk - Thank you. I look forward to the conversations ahead and would be delighted to stay connected with you. Speak soon, Ruud
