What I Read This Year: A 7-Day Series of Books and Theses This post is part of my 7-day reading series, reflecting on the books and theses I read this year. Part 1 – An Independent, Colonial Judiciary: A History of the Bombay High Court During the British Raj, 1862–1947 Recently, I read An Independent, Colonial Judiciary written by Abhinav Chandrachud. This book is about the history of the Bombay High Court from 1862 to 1947.The central strength of the book lies in its explanation of institutional continuity. One such example is the analysis of a letter sent to M.C. Chagla by Sir Jamshedji Kanga, which highlights the paradoxical reverence for “British traditions of justice” in a newly sovereign nation. It is a must-read for a law student to understand the origin and development of the legal profession and the legal system in our country. #Legalhistory, #Bombayhighcourt, #Law, #Judiciary, #Book
