The most dangerous color on a supplier dashboard isn't red. It's green that should have been amber three weeks ago. Phantom green happens when a supplier reports status against a cadence that no longer reflects reality. The work order is "in progress." The documentation is "underway." The shipment is "on plan." Each statement is technically true. None of them tell you the rate of progress has slowed. Phantom green is what produces the call that always sounds the same: "We need to talk about WK 18." The fix isn't more frequent status updates. The supplier reports the same way at any frequency. The fix is independent observation of cadence — what's actually moving on the floor, week over week, against what was moving the week before. When cadence drops, the report goes amber.
