The Next Frontier of IUS in IBD: Our New Umbrella Review Maps the Gaps for Future Research! The body of evidence for Intestinal Ultrasound (#IUS) in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (#IBD) is growing at an almost exponential rate. The rapid growth and vast knowledge are fantastic! However, at the International Bowel UltraSound (IBUS) Group, we demand more—we strive for the absolute highest level of evidence and standardization 🎯. Therefore, I am incredibly proud and excited to announce the publication of our comprehensive umbrella review, "Extending the Frontiers of Intestinal Ultrasound Knowledge, Performance and Expansion," now #OpenAccess in Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics (APT)! 🥳 Key Strengths & Findings: Foundation of Rigor: We systematically identified research gaps at the level of systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and consensus statements—the highest level of evidence. This umbrella review methodology targets secondary literature to minimize selection bias and highlights areas where evidence is insufficient, biased, or inconsistent. Structured Insight: The review process was strengthened by expert review from the IBUS Scientific Committee. We used a structured framework adapted from Robinson et al. to categorize these gaps, aiding in understanding their origins (e.g., insufficient data, inconsistent findings). A Comprehensive Roadmap: This paper provides a comprehensive overview of current IUS knowledge and pinpoints significant areas of uncertainty across disease activity assessment, complications, pediatric applications, and implementation. The Road Forward: Prioritization is Key ➡️ This publication lays the essential groundwork for a comprehensive needs assessment and a consensus-based research priority strategy by the #IBUS group. Our immediate next step is to engage our community to prioritize which of these critical gaps need to be closed first, ensuring our efforts maximize clinical utility and patient benefit. A huge, heartfelt thank you to all the dedicated authors, the IBUS Scientific Committee, and especially to our exceptional first author, Cathy Lu, for this massive and necessary undertaking! 🙏👏 Read the full Open Access article here: (https://lnkd.in/da2CEMa5) Cathy Lu Bram Verstockt Michael Winter Britt Christensen Dan Carter MD, FEBGH Floris de Voogd Michael Dolinger Tom Goodsall Maureen O'Brien Ryan Rosentreter International Bowel UltraSound (IBUS) Group Mariangela Allocca Rune Wilkens Bispebjerg Hospital Abdominalcenter K, Bispebjerg Hospital #IntestinalUltrasound #IBD #CrohnsDisease #UlcerativeColitis #IBUS #MedicalResearch #OpenAccess #FutureofGastroenterology 🔬
