🌎 A Heart, an Ultrasound Probe, and Global Collaboration: Why We Do This! ❤️‍🔥 I am absolutely energized, humbled, and filled with gratitude after hosting the International Bowel UltraSound (IBUS) Group regional Model 1 course for the Nordic Countries right here at Abdominalcenter K, Bispebjerg Hospital in Copenhagen, in strong collaboration with Jacob Bjerrum at IBD Herlev and Zainab Nagras. It was an intensive week dedicated to a singular, powerful goal: To elevate and transform Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) care across the Nordics—and ultimately, globally—through rigorous education in Intestinal Ultrasound (IUS). But seriously, why do we spend endless hours organizing this 🤔 My colleague, Clas-Göran af Björkesten, perfectly captured the commitment when he referred to (dedication to) Intestinal Ultrasound as a kind of "masochistic hobby." Spending countless hours away from family, meticulously teaching probe techniques, image acquisition, and traversing steep learning curves... what is the real driver? Is it for the money? Absolutely not. 💸 Is it for the fame? That's nice, but it's not the reason. ✨ Is it for networking and socializing? That is important. 🤝 Is it for friendship and great colleagues? Definitely! 🥰 Is it because it makes sense? BINGO! ✅ We fundamentally believe that we can make a real, tangible difference for patients suffering from IBD — Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis — one IUS examination at a time, one competent IUS examiner at a time, one hospital offering this service at a time, one country..., one region... This step-by-step approach is how we will achieve the core goal of IBUS: To transform IBD care globally with intestinal ultrasound. This isn't just about scanning; it’s about enabling better, non-invasive monitoring to provide optimal care, catch disease activity earlier, and enhance the quality of life for IBD patients everywhere. Thank you to everyone involved (see comments) What Inspires You? I've shared why my colleagues and I are so passionate about IUS and making an impact for IBD patients. What is the single biggest thing that drives you in your daily work to improve patient care?
