In celebration of our 80th anniversary, we reflect on key chapters of our wind tunnel history. MBB Lampyridae or MRMF (medium range missile fighter) was an aircraft technology project run by Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm in the 1980s focusing on the “radar visibility of fighter aircraft”. The program ran from 1981 to 1987. The main focus was on developing an aircraft concept that would have the lowest possible radar cross-section and could also be used as a fighter aircraft. The flight characteristics were tested and optimized in the large F+W wind tunnel.
