On Wednesday, we held our annual Anzac Commemorative March and Service at RSL ANZAC Village, Narrabeen. Attendees included veterans, residents, and special guests from RSL NSW, Ex-Service Organisations, representatives from New Zealand Consulate of Sydney, armed force representatives, and NSW Police Force. We extend our gratitude to Australian Defence Force personnel and volunteers who escorted veteran residents in the march – your care and time is greatly appreciated. The RSL LifeCare Spur Program Ceremonial Lancer Troop, led by Rebecca Kennedy, also participated in the march, drawing many smiles from visitors. The service was opened by a moving performance by the Veteran Voices. RSL LifeCare Chief Veteran Services Officer David Anderson was the MC for the event and opened the service followed by reading of The Oath by RSL LifeCare Regional Manager Retirement Living Mrs. Stephanie Stoddard. Chair of RSL LifeCare Board, Ms. Sangeeta Venkatesan introduced our guest speaker, Brigadier Vincent Williams CSC (Retd.), Acting President RSL NSW, who delivered the Anzac address and was presented a gift by Little Diggers Preschool children. Prayers of Remembrance and Peace were said by veteran and RSL ANZAC Village resident Peter Freudenstein and resident Irene Axton. The Meaning of Anzac was said by Mr. James Munro, Consul-General of New Zealand. The Pittwater House Cadet Unit Catafalque Party marched in unison and stood guard, setting the scene for the wreath-laying by special guests and members of the community. The Ode was delivered by Mr. Geoff Seis, President, War Veterans (Narrabeen) RSL sub-Branch and Bugler Brian Evans sounded 'The Last Post', whilst guests observed One Minute’s Silence. Chaplain Keith Walker delivered the Benediction, and together, guests sang the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems to the sounds of the Royal Australian Navy Band Sydney followed by RSL LifeCare CEO Drew Pearce who closed the service. This annual event is important to the RSL LifeCare community to reflect and commemorate Anzac Day. RSL ANZAC Village was opened on Anzac Day in 1939 to provide care and support for veterans from the First World War. Today, it is our honour to continue providing care to veterans and seniors, in a warm, welcoming and respectful community.
