Royal Brompton Hospital is hosting the ECMObile this week – a high-fidelity mobile ECMO simulation centre from Medtronic Cardiac and Vascular.   On site from 15 to 18 June, it’s giving our teams hands-on training in ECMO, a critical, last resort treatment for patients with acute respiratory and cardiac failure. Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) temporarily takes over the work of the heart and lungs, giving patients a vital chance to recover. Our hospitals are among the busiest of specialist centres in the UK that use ECMO and our teams support patients nationwide. “This visit is about strengthening skills, improving awareness and delivering the highest standard of care for our patients”, said Dr Brijesh Patel, consultant, ECMO and academic lead at Royal Brompton Hospital. During the week we’re also welcoming local schools, former patients and Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity supporters to see this life-saving technology up close.
