“This model is inspired by my donor and their family for consenting to their loved one’s donation....” Last year, we shared the story of Joe Russell, a patient living with cystic fibrosis who received a life-saving lung transplant more than a decade ago. Joe first learned origami at the age of eight, and over the years the Japanese art of paper folding has become an important part of his life—playing a meaningful role in his recovery following transplant. In a remarkable gesture of gratitude, Joe spent two years designing and creating a detailed origami replica of a pair of lungs. Last year, he donated this intricate artwork to colleagues at Harefield Hospital. The piece was given as a heartfelt thank you to the teams who have cared for him throughout his journey, to his donor and their family, and to help raise awareness of the vital importance of organ donation. Watch Joe talk about how his love of origami has helped him on his transplant journey. #CFweek #patientstories #cysticfibrosis #organdonation
