Snakes Travelling artist Wenten Rubuntja Tjabanati AM Arrente Anmatyerre Language group Leader of the Central Australian Aboriginal people. Aboriginal people believe snakes travelled across the desert landscape creating the waterholes and rivers of Central Australia in the Dreamtime. Ceremonies are held to celebrate this happening at a sacred site near Alice Springs. Men of the Arrente language group initiate their sons into manhood calling on the snake ancestral beings to give power and strength to the boys during the ceremony Circles represent sacred waterholes the snakes created in the Dreamtime and are painted on the sand for the ceremony. Ceremonial objects are used to ward off evil spirits When the boys are initiated they are released from their fathers into manhood. Background colours represent the desert landscape Wenten Rubuntja Tjabanati AM has presented his art to Queen Elizabeth ll and Pope Paul in Alice Springs Central Australia His paintings hang in Government House Canberra and major galleries and collections worldwide Rosemary Penrose Aboriginal Art Collection #art #traditionalart #contemporaryart #watercolours #paintings #artgallery #artists #visualarts #aboriginalpaintings #aboriginalcontemporaryart #aboriginalartists #aboriginaltraditionalart
