Launching the Executive Leadership Journey with Joburg Property Company was one of those moments that makes you pause. Not only because it was “a great event.” Because it showed me, again, what’s happening in so many organisations right now. On paper, things look fine. Work gets done. Targets get hit. People show up. But inside the business, you can feel the strain. Leaders are carrying more than their job description. Teams are busy, but not always clear. Decisions take longer than they should. Small issues create disproportionate stress. Everyone’s “coping” but nobody feels properly resourced. And we label it as pressure. Or growth. Or “just the season.” Having Professor Bonang Mohale in the room, sharing from his book “Lift As You Rise”, brought that home in a powerful way. When you lift people, you expand yourself. When you invest in people, performance takes care of itself. What really stayed with me was this realisation: Leadership isn’t about getting more out of people. It’s about being deeply committed to developing them. The JPC CEO spoke about turning individual strength into collective strength. About building institutions, not just careers. That’s Human Capacity Engineering in real life. It also reminded me why I’ve moved beyond the old approach of “more information will fix it.” Most leaders already know what they should be doing. The problem is that capacity gets drained quietly in how we decide, how we communicate how we prioritise and how we recover. So here’s the uncomfortable question I’m leaving with: “If your results look strong but your energy feels fragile…how long is that actually sustainable?” Well done to the HL Consulting team for championing this. This is the inprotnat work we do to elevate human capacity for sustained performance. To the Joburg Property Company we are excited for the opportunity.
